While John’s other entrepreneurial endeavor keeps him quite busy (Whole Foods Market, of which he is co-founder and CEO), remarkably enough he also finds time to contribute to the intellectual development of FLOW, of which he is also co-founder. He is a serious student of ideas and a passionate entrepreneur of meaning, forging new ground as the convergence of business, consciousness, and compassion. We are fortunate to have John as an ambassador for FLOW and to be able to point to Whole Foods as a powerful embodiment of FLOW principles.
We would like to call a number of John’s recent FLOW-related contributions to your attention.
Most urgently: Tomorrow, Monday May 8th, John and Whole Foods will be featured on “American Made” on CNBC at 8:00 pm EDT. Set your recorders and Tivos in case you can’t catch it at that time.
In addition, the following contributions from John have recently become available:
- Excerpts from conversation with Ken Wilber on Integral Business, available for free on the FLOW website.
-
The Upward Flow of Human Development from John’s speech at the annual Whole Foods Tribal Gathering, posted at John’s blog at the Whole Foods website. John provided a great introduction to the principles of Spiral Dynamics, which provides a point of reference for his conversation with Ken Wilber.
-
Working for Good: Creating a New Business Paradigm: John’s presentation during the May 3rd, 2006 Working for Good webcast.
-
A New Business Paradigm: The powerpoint presentation John presented during the Working for Good webcast.
-
Winning the Battle for Freedom and Prosperity: the text of a speech that John presented at FreedomFest in 2004, currently running in the June 2006 issue of Liberty Unbound.
See also The Role of the Corporation, John Mackey’s debate with Milton Friedman, and Cypress Semiconductor's T.J. Rodgers that originally ran in Reason magazine in October of 2005, available at the FLOW website.
It is very rare to have the CEO of a Fortune 500 company who is also co-creating an original vision for how to make the world a better place. We are most grateful for and excited by his contributions.
Towards a sustainable peace, prosperity, and happiness for all,

Michael Strong, CEO & Chief Visionary Officer
