Member Platforms

FLOW consists of a vision, action, and community.  Our Member Platform section is where you have an opportunity to meet particular members of our community, hear their vision, and understand the actions they are taking.  Each month we publish a paper or article written by or featuring one of our Members. In this section you will find the archive of these papers, with a brief bio of the presenting Member.

We invite you to submit your papers for consideration. Please include a brief bio, a photograph (jpeg), and the paper, including any publication credits.

March 2006: Tom Atlee

 

Tom Atlee is founder of the Co-Intelligence Institute and author of The Tao of Democracy: Using Co-intelligence to Create a World that Works for All. A lifelong activist, in the 1980s he became increasingly frustrated with dysfunctional activist groups. In 1986 he had his first lived experience of a self-organizing, chaotic-but-functional leaderless/leaderful group on the Great Peace March.... Click here for Tom's full bio.

Leif Smith and his partner Pat Wagner own Pattern Research, Inc. a Denver-based research and consulting business that focuses on supporting innovators in the public, private and nonprofit sectors.  Since 1975, he has helped inventors, writers, scientists, entrepreneurs, artists and other cutting edge thinkers further their personal and professional quests.

Leif recently founded the Explorers Foundation, to identify and promote the importance of the explorer in cultural, political and philosophical contexts.

November 2006: Lt Col Fred Krawchuk

 

Lieutenant Colonel Fred T. Krawchuk is a U.S. Army Special Forces officer currently assigned to the U.S. Pacific Command in Hawaii where he is responsible for communications, security, and development strategies in Asia.  He has led soldiers in a variety of infantry, information operations, and special operations assignments in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.  LTC Krawchuk served as an Olmsted Scholar in Spain and as an Army Senior Fellow with the U.S. Department of State.  Fred is a General MacArthur Leadership Award Winner and graduate of the United States Military Academy, University of Navarra-IESE, and Harvard University.  He has also attended courses at Strozzi Institute, Integral Institute, and Esalen Institute.  Fred has served as a term member with the Council on Foreign Relations, the French American Foundation's Young Leaders Program, and the Council for Emerging National Security Affairs.  Fred has published articles on the topics of terrorism, leadership, and strategic communication.   One of Fred’s passions is bringing together diverse voices in order to holistically address complex international relations issues in a wise and compassionate manner.  He can be reached at fred.krawchuk@gmail.com

October 2006: Mark Frazier

 

Mark Frazier is cofounder and President of Openworld, Inc., a Washington-based nonprofit software and information technology  strategy firm, and cofounder and President/CEO of Openworld Learning LLC, a US-Russian software development and eLearning services company  based in Arlington, Virginia. From 1976-84, he directed public policy initiatives for the Sabre Foundation, specializing in land grant and free economic zone strategies for community-based organizations and for international initiatives to open technological frontiers. He has since specialized in information technology competitiveness initiatives, telecommunications reform, free enterprise zone legislation, telework outsourcing, and community self-help initiatives in more than 50 countries for public and private sector clients. He is presently assisting community-based telecenter, eLearning, and microvoucher initiatives in Asia and Africa, with a focus on converting former military bases and other greenfield sites into private development opportunities that share asset gains with local and global social ventures. A past publisher and managing editor of Reason magazine, Mr. Frazier is a graduate of Harvard University and former Visiting Fellow of the Lehrman Institute. September 2006: Gary Hoover

 

Gary Hoover began his entrepreneurial journey at an early age.  He grew up in Anderson, Indiana, a General Motors factory town, and began asking questions about business at an early age.  Convinced that the best way to change the world (for the better) was to lead or create enterprises, he started subscribing to Fortune Magazine when he was 12.  While other kids were playing baseball, he was memorizing the Fortune 500.  He visited hundreds of corporate headquarters and offices before he was 18, and studied the stock market in depth.  His question was the same, “What separates the losers from the winners?”

August 2006: Yasuhiko Kimura

July 2006: Will Gudeman

 

Will Gudeman recently joined the FLOW staff as a research assistant. His background includes stints in the US Marine Corps, including active duty in Kuwait, service in the Peace Corps in East Timor, and advanced studies in community and economic development. His FLOW member Platform is entitlted "The Well-Intentioned Attempt to Create the Rule of Law in East Timor."

March 2006: James Peron

 

James Peron is the author of "Die, the Beloved Country?," "Zimbabwe: Death of a Dream," "Exploding Population Myths," and other books. He is the editor of the book "The Liberal Tide: From Tyranny to Liberty" and has written for numerous publications including the Johannesburg Star, the Wall Street Journal (Europe) and other publications. He is working to establish the Centre for Liberal Studies in Berlin in conjunction with the Institut für Unternehmerische Freiheit.
